Baritone Chris Bendrell is enjoying his first year in Ars Nova Singers. He moved to Boulder in 2023 from San Antonio, TX to be a climbing guide.
Where did you go to college? I studied sacred music at Our Lady of the Lake University, voice and organ at the University of North Texas.
What is your musical background? I began playing cello at the age of 12, and began singing shortly after. Professionally, I have been singing in and directing choirs in the Episcopal Church for the last 10 years. I especially love the vocal music of the Tudor era.
What is your favorite Ars Nova piece? Eriks Ešenvalds Rivers of Light
What is your favorite musical memory of all time? Performing Händel’s Dixit Dominus with members of the Voices of Music ensemble.
What is your favorite food? Paneer curry, or any Indian food!
What is your favorite craft beer, wine, or distilled beverage? Supplication Brown Ale from Russian River Valley Brewing!
What did you do to keep yourself busy and sane during the pandemic? During covid, I had the opportunity to do a lot of outdoor climbing, which has since become my career!
What is your favorite hobby? Experimenting with espresso at home!
