What does “Ars Nova” mean?
Ars Nova is a Latin phrase that translates as new art. In musical terms, it refers to a French/Burgundian style from the late Middle Ages (14th century), but is occasionally used to describe all European polyphonic music (music that consists of two or more simultaneous lines of melody) of the same period. Polyphonic music and supporting new music are what we’re all about about.
How was the size of your chorus determined?
We love a good vocal challenge, and there’s almost nothing so challenging as creating a rich, blended sound from 32-part or 40-part tunes. 40+ voices gives us the flexibility to tackle complicated pieces and cultivate a sound that other choirs wouldn’t dream of.
Is Ars Nova a non-profit organization?
Yes! Ars Nova was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1987. We’d welcome your support.
Do you hold auditions?
Yes! We audition year-round, and place the most gifted vocalists as openings arise.
Do you pay your singers?
Yes! You can find compensation details below our audition information.
Do you need volunteers?
Yes! If you’re looking for a fun and supportive way to spend your free time and to experience Ars Nova from a different perspective, please connect with us. We’re always looking for volunteer ushers, house managers, and box office helpers.
Where do you perform?
We’ve performed all over the Denver Metro Area — from proper concert halls to small sacred spaces to the CU-Boulder Fiske Planetarium. Please review the details of your specific performance for venue information.
How do I buy tickets?
Visit our Tickets page to learn more.
How long are performances?
That depends on the day’s specific program, but our aim is to offer a robust concert-going experience without monopolizing your night.
Is there an intermission?
We generally host intermissions, but this will vary from concert to concert. Please feel free to bring a bottle of water with you!
What’s parking like?
Since we perform in a variety of venues, we recommend reviewing their websites for specific parking information. If you’re seeing us at one of our usual haunts, you may find helpful logistical information here.
Are there other events I should know about?
We’ve traditionally hosted two after-concert receptions with complimentary food and beverages: once during our holiday program, and once at the end of our season. We also host an annual fundraising gala and would welcome your support! Keep an eye out for information about these gatherings, or contact info@arsnovasingers.org for updates.
