Peggy Austin retired in spring of 2023 after 37 years of teaching music in public schools. Most recently she taught at Superior Elementary in Colorado and was responsible for K-5 general music education, the Songbirds Choir and the 5th grade musical. Prior to the 17 years at Superior, Peggy taught in Westminster & Boulder, CO; Muncie, IN and Shellsburg, IA. She has taught choir, band, and general music to students in grades K-12, sung in the Ball State Wives and Women’s Chorale and played piccolo in the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. Peggy holds two degrees in flute performance from the University of Iowa (BM) and Ball State University (MM). She is married to Jim Austin who is a retired CU Boulder music education professor. They have two children Brody (CU grad in mechanical engineering) and Lily (studying nursing at Montana State). Peggy enjoys travel, hiking, painting, and being outdoors and is just starting to explore retirement. It has always been her belief that everyone is musical and it is her mission to help children find and develop their musical selves.
