as the 36 voices of the Ars Nova Singers present three extraordinary
Requiem masses (a choral form that has attracted composers through the centuries as a vehicle for profound personal expression). Featuring Renaissance composer Jean Richafort’s Requiem for 6 Voices; Herbert Howells’ 1936 Requiem (considered such an intimate work that he withheld it from publication for 45 years); and Ildebrando Pizzetti’s Messa di Requiem, in which the composer weaves an intriguing twentieth-century web over ancient Gregorian melodies.
